St Aidans Win U 14 County Final
St Aidans 7-9 St Croans 1-11
On Thursday 16 July St Aidans defeated St Croans in Mulhearne Park , Fuerty , to win the Div 2 U 14 Football County Final.
Having beaten St Aidans in the league St Croans were favourites to take the Championship title.
After five minutes of the game St Croans were first to score, soon after Aidans levelled and then went ahead. The Aidans lads were in control for the first half, going into the interval 4-3 to 0-4 ahead.
The second half started with Croans putting severe pressure on the Aidans defence, however a couple of quick goals put Aidans back in contro again. The last five minutes was hectic, but the Aidans defence held solid. When the final whistle blew were winners by
7-9 to 1-11, bridging a gap of 10 years, 1999 was the last time St Aidans an U 14 Title.
John Healy had an outstanding game in Goal, Thomas Traecy, Conor Mulry and James Fitzmaurice made the St Croans forwards work hard for all their scores, the half back line of Jack Conroy, Eoin Fallon and Darren Campbelldefended well and attacked at every opportunity. Oliver Daly and Colm Arnold ran themselves into the ground at midfield,Nigel Kelly, Michael Donoghue and Malachy McDonnell in the half forward line took some graet long distance scores, Patrick Kelly, Conor McGrath and johnathan Kiernan kept the Croans full bak line busy with spectacular goals. Shane McCormack, Shane Dolan and Tim Clogher made a great contribution when called upon to do so.Michael Healy Conor and Cathal Meares made up a a very committed and hard workinh panel.
This was a great end to a year which started on the dark and wet nights of February.
The pitch and facilities were in excellent condition and were a credit to St Ciarans.
